Which glow plug?

I have an error code saying my cylinder 4 glow plug needs replacing. I expected it to be an easy replacement but apparently there are two types, one with a pressure sensor and one without. Euro Car Parts asked me "Does your vehicle come with a pressure sensor". How would I know?

Some UK fellows use to drive Diesels.
I don't doubt he does know about the difference between spark plugs and glow plugs.
Sorry, I can't help too.

Yep, I know the difference.
I've just never come across glow plugs with pressure sensors.

Any way, I've ordered the standard type and then I'll see if it looks like the one I'm replacing.

Cheers

If you are replacing on a VW TDI, yes, the glow plugs have a pressure sensor.

Really? I'd come to the conclusion mine didn't. They cost about £90 as opposed to £15 without the sensor (UK). My car is BlueMotion perhaps that makes a difference. When it arrives I'll compare it.
Thanks.

Mine was the 2.0 TDI "Clean Diesel" that raised such a stink. I had to replace one of the glow plugs once, which had a cylinder pressure sensor. It was $100 USD each, so rather painful for a single sensor.

But knowing VW, it will have the pressure sensor. If you have VCDS, you could go in and look to see if there are cylinder pressure readings.

Ditto, I had two go out. They worked fine but were giving pressure readings that were out of bounds so it threw a code. I found replacements for around $75 each, looks like there's a couple of complete sets on ebay for $119 right now.

Here's my VCDS fault. No mention of pressure so fingers crossed I'm ok with the standard type.

Ha ha - stupid car was having a laugh at me. Turns out it still gives the error but has only just told me 3 days later.

I've swapped over two plugs to see if the error moves cylinders.

Doh

Ok stupid me. I thought cylinder 4 was on the right and that's true but I'd been changing cylinder 3! Not realising 4 was further over behind the wiring harness.
Should be fine now.
