Is this a Golf R 400?

That's going to be a $50k car if it comes here at all.

As exciting as it would be to have more 5 cylinder VAG cars in the US, what this also means is the end of the VR6, ultimately. They both have their long histories, and their great sounds, but the VR6 nudges out in that category for most. Still sad we'll never see the 3liter turbo VR6 Golf R from the factory.

Are you sure?

VW Atlas - NA market - 3,6 l VR6 280 HP

VW Teramont - Chinese market - 2,5 l VR6 turbo 300 HP

Both cars are MQB based and current developments. ;)

Granted, these two VR6 engines aren't the most advanced designs
available on the Volkswagen group. Both the 2.0T and the inline-5
2.5T provide far superior performance to fuel effciency ratios than
these bloody VR6s will ever do. The times they're changin'...

I'm sure of nothing other than higher volume models are getting turbo 4s instead of VR6 motors. Your two examples not withstanding, the motor in the Arteon is effectively a detuned Gen3 Golf R motor with an output similar to the 3.6L VR6, and if that's the CC replacement I'd bet the Passat V6 model won't be far behind in getting that motor or similar as well.

I'm not saying this proudly or with excitement, I think it's the sad end of an era. I can only HOPE VW holds out and gives us one last hurrah on the VR motors in a vehicle that isn't a 4000lbs SUV.
