I have a sportwagen coming, so want to undercoat anything that might rust, so wonder if someone who has had one for a while, could give me a list of things to get at on day one,

I did a little on my GTI. Mostly in the back and along the rocker panels. Really it's well sealed from the factory and probably overkill. Stay away from any sensors.

Mainly suspension parts which is what I did to mine....winter road salt eats through the basic black power coat on the metal suspension parts.

Be mindful what you use, oil based products should not come into contact with anything plastic or rubber. One product that is safe to use on all areas of the chassis is called "Fluid Film" and is lanolin based, so it doesn't hurt plastics or rubbers.
