Anyone lose MPG after switching tires or wheels?

When I switch from all season Bridgestone to summer S4 pole positions , same size, my mpg drops about 3-4 mpg. Same air pressure.

Assuming your Golf came with low rolling resistance tires like mine I'm surprised it wasn't a larger mpg hit. I used to average 40+ at 70-75 now it's 35-37 at 70-75.

It came with continental procontacts. I think that's the name

Went from 195/65R15 to 245/40R18.
Almost same situation as you. Not sure if you went 225/235/245 though.

My mileage who from 31 to 26. Taking into account increased circumference which actually made my speedometer almost perfectly accurate, it's still a drop of 4mpg.

Orange is when tire switch happened.
Also started recording MFD mpg which pretty consistently shows 10% more than actual.

Not sure if you guys know but you can adjust MFD MPG calculation via OBDII. Mine has been adjusted and now is within 0.5 MPG vs Fuelly or spot on.

I did the same thing using OBDeleven, my MPG is almost spot on now when comparing my trip odometer after refuel at the pump.

never mind. Think I found it. Will be testing today

Here you go:

Correct Fuel consumption in DIS (C7): (Revised)

[17-Instruments]
[Coding - 07] > [Adaptation - 10]
Scroll down about 20 items in the drop down list until you see something like fuel consumption adaptation - change the value from 100 to higher or lower:
Example - if your DIS is consistently off by 7% to your actual calculated mpg:
You RAISE the number to the percentage if DIS is OVER reporting mpg (i.e. 107)
You LOWER the number to the percentage if DIS is UNDER reporting mpg (i.e. 93)

Edit: this is the right adaptation description for our cars

Display correction of consumption and operating range, gas

So what's the biggest cause of MPG loss? The tire compound, the width, or the wheel weight? I feel like drag must have the biggest effect on the freeway. I would think Weight is a bigger factor in city

That is awesome!! I'll have to calculate this. Thanks

Aerodynamic drag must be in play for sure. The MPG is exponentially worse at speed, I used to get high 30's at 70 mph and right now I'm averaging 33 mpg after over 100 miles straight on the highway with no traffic. So the loss is even greater than the 2-3 at 65 mph. Maybe 5-6 mpg difference at 70 mph. Interesting. This is assuming the computers immediate mpg usage counter is accurate too.
