Camber options aside from camber plates?

Hey everyone,

I track my Golf R often, and burn through the external edges of tires. After doing some pyrometer testing, and asking some fast R drivers, I discovered that I needed negative camber.

I added VWR springs and Ground Control camber plates, set to -2.5 degrees. With this setup, I am able to get a close to ideal contact patch on the track (around 10 degrees F of hot tire temp across all tires inside and out).

Unfortunately, the camber plates as so loud, the car is not drivable. So loud, pedestrians turn to see what the banging is about.

Can I get -2.5 of camber with lower control mounts? Is there any other options?

Thanks in advance.

You are the first Ground Control Camber Plate customer to report loud banging. I've been to the track with several folks running Ground Control Camber plates and no loud banging was reported.

Club sport S swivels and SuperPro LCA will get you to -2. I doubt you could combine camber plates and CSS hubs due to likely clearance issue between attach point of strut roll bar end link ball joint and inner fender.

OK I'll take a video for reference and make a new thread to get feedback.

The ideal solution would be to just use what I have installed now. I have confirmed they are installed correctly (brought them back to a VW racing specialist garage). So maybe there is just something wrong with them.

Does the clunk happen at any speed, slow or fast? If slow, having a friend walk next to the vehicle while you drive over bumps, etc may help isolate where the sound is coming from.

I have GC plates as well and have never had any noise from them.

I'd consider adding Powerflex offset bushings (the front bushing, the smaller one).

powerflex just updated their US site with more products. Still no sign of the camber bushing for mk7 but they do show a bushing / bracket for the mk7 that does not fit! belongs on the mk6.

I did a call with US sales who claimed the camber bushing does fit, though they quoted the wrong part to pair up with for the rear arm bush (the bracket part above)

would love to try that camber bushing, but not until they post it up so I can have some basis for complaint when it doesn't work. They need to get consistent and knowledgeable of their own products.
