Group 1 is the same as group 3, they just use the groups to track sales numbers.

Interesting - thought it was different tunes for the various EA888 variants. So a JB1 off an MK7 GTI should work with my 1.8t with no map revisions needed?

New to the JB4 family

Hey guys,

I'm thrilled to have gotten my JB4 installed yesterday. My new 2017 Golf 1.8TSI was pretty spunky already, but this seemed like a great option to bump the power with minimum investment.

The unit was pretty easy to install, plug D wasn't an issue. The only trouble I had was the ODB-II cable. It was very hard to get it thru the firewall since I didn't want to remove the battery. Other than that, no problems. She started up with no errors or warnings. I drove to Shell and filled up on V-power Nitro+ 91. Today on my commute to work, I didn't push hard (WOT). On my way home, I gave her a little push and she was very lively.

The power delivery is very smooth like other people have mentioned. I didn't get the Bluetooth kit yet, so I think I'm on Map 1. Once I get the kit I'll probably see how Map 2 feels and look at Map 6.

I'm not planning to do a down pipe or intake for now (she's only 3 months old!). But I'm satisfied and look forward to playing around with it in the coming weeks. Thanks to everyone's posts, especially George Smooth. You gave me the confidence that I could do it. This mod is my first recommendation to anyone with a Golf.

George - Are these still the recommended settings for Map 6 for 93?
toledospeed runs seem to use a tamer initial boost profile at the beginning (2k-3k rpm) and at the end (6k-7k). I'm curious if any user results have shifted the recommended profile.

George recommended the below for my 1.8t as a Map 6 starting point for more linear power delivery. Been running this for over 3 weeks and happy so far.

5.2 with boost safety for 93 octane.

If you want a more linear power delivery and the sensor for map 6 is plugged in you can go with the below settings in the map 6 chart and select map 6:

1500 0
2000 2
2500 3
3000 3.5
3500 4

I've just ordered the JB4 and JB4 Smart phone wireless adapter for my Golf TSI 1.8t. I keeping reading about having to run a cable thru the firewall. Sorry for the stupid question, but if I have the wireless adapter I'm assuming don't need to run any wires through the firewall correct? I'd like to avoid that.

I'd also like to be able to run logs and send them to George. I can run logs from the phone app correct? Since I'm so new to this, do you have recommendations on which Maps I should try first? Per the information on the first page of this thread I know Map 1 is the less aggressive +4.0 , Map 6 is more aggressive +5.0 and Map 2 is very aggressive.

You will want to start with map 1 and run some logs...BTW this is the 1.8t JB1 thread, please use the 1.8t JB4 thread.

Using JB1 purchased for GTI

I have my JB1 unit that was previously bought for and installed in a 2015 GTI. I traded in the GTI for a 2017 Alltrack with the 1.8TSI. Does anyone know if I can just install it on the Alltrack as is? Or does it need a firmware flash?

Can't find confirmation on the Burger site or forums whether or not that's the case. Read one post where someone said these units are all the same and just sold under different SKU's for tracking purposes but want to be safe and confirm whether or not that's true before installing.

I'm very certain you can use it as is. Send an email to George to be 100% sure.

Thanks Ton. I actually was reading a few pages back in this bread and George actually answered the question for someone else. It is the same unit so looks like I can just use it as is.

you can use it on any mk7 golf. The JB1/JB4's detect your ECU firmware and adjust themselves accordingly to my understanding. Just don't use Map6 without editing it for lower boost b/c by default it will be set to 24psi peak which the IS12 can't even dream of ever attaining.

TwinDad has hit close to 24 successfully. Turbines across the world cry in unison when he does it. But he hasn't blown anything up yet!

As time passes users can post their findings. We have tested upper limits as well so if you unsure how high you can go boost wise rather email us george@burgertuning.com or post here.
We are going to be doing some dyno testing with figures up to 5.5 to see what the incremental gains are to see if there is value in going that high with the boost settings. Results may also vary according to fuel quality from area to area.
Hello George. Is this Map6 91 Octane base settings safe for bone stock 1.8T?
