My dad bought a used 2015 gti and it blew up after driving it for 200 miles UPDATE

My dad bought a used 2015 gti with 30000 miles. Dsg pp lighting package. He has dealt with rebuilt titles before so he took his chance on this one and it this wasnt a good one. Sold AS-IS. We just had it taken apart it needs a block and might need a turbo. Should he buy a new IS20 or used one. The car was for my younger brother. Not the best decision but its a lesson learned. Paid $10000....

it's the risk you take. oh well. would have been great if it worked out

get a used one, but probably from a 16+, or a newer revision. Or just get a IS38 :)

Yeah bro if you need a new turbo anyway get an is38, it is reliable. It has more HP and less torque so it actually better on the transmissions/clutch. It is a no brainier, definitely get the is38 turbo now. From what I read the car runs and feels smoother with the is38

Told him that but he just dosent want to have to get it tuned. It will be my brothers first car and he doesnt need all that power. I wish

If you are not going to tune it then buy an IS20 instead, he just want to be safe. Get the latest revision though

I'd recommend buying a new turbo whichever route you take. Yeah used is cheaper but with a part like a turbo it's not worth the risk.
