Thank you! OMG this has been driving me crazy and my dealer thought was I was nuts. Apparently no one here where I live has either noticed or don't want to complain. I am still thinking I want to take it into them and have them fix it as I shouldn't have too but at the same time, I don't want them messing with my Tint Bra I install myself(PITA putting tint around the rear view system). I know this is on the outside but the service department stated they would try claybarring inside and out...

I prefer to do stuff myself, less chance of anyone else sodding the car up! You can do it by hand, (I did some of mine by hand) or use a Dual Action Polisher, takes longer by hand, but harder to screw up the results!

Good work, pity they didn't offer the 140PS when we got ours.

eh? I was looking from June 2014 & the engine was available then but it is only available on the GT trim spec.

Hmm. Ours is a 2013. Pretty sure there was no estate 140.

Looking at all info when it was launched in Europe first with petrol engines up to 140PS & upto GT trim & same here when launched in July 2013, just that later on Europe got the 150PS & then we did.

Maybe the dealer didn't know about them?

Oh well maybe I just didn't see em then! Tbh I don't think we were going to spend the £££ for the GT spec in the first place. Definitely wasn't going to be available in SE spec. And well it's the missus car not mine.. :)

Latest pictures of car are in the links to the DIY sections for each "mod", if you need to see each mod that is. Those pictures are more detailed & close up. However I do need to do some for the RGM sill guards I admit.

If there is a particular item you want me to take a pic of let me know.

February 2016

So car in winter mode & everything OK...err NO! :(

Had a friends Mk6 in my garage with the dreaded leaky rear door via the window carrier foam seal. As it had soaked the rear footwell carpets, my car was on the driveway & the Mk6 was in my garage drying out!

Unfortunately I messed up my car!!

Now I pride myself on keeping the car clean & know about the freezing of the door seals etc & had applied rubber seal/protector to all the seals when I swapped onto the winter tyres back in November. I decided that it would be a good idea to rinse the car on a sunny afternoon to get most of the salt/grit/grime off, but did not dry the car as not a "proper clean".

The next morning I was up at 5:45AM to go ski- mountaineering & the temperature had dropped to -6C outside my house. Guess what? The car was frozen solid, door handles & doors. I just managed to get the drivers door open & put the heating on, heated windscreens, mirrors, etc., etc. This is something I don't usually have to do as I have the garage, but I hate doing it with the car sat idling, as it's not ideal for the engine!

Basically the excess water in the door shuts had frozen the gaps between the door/rubbers & the car body solid, & affected the external door handles. So if washing the car, dry the excess water off! The paintwork was OK due to the ceramic coating & rubbers seals were all OK & had not ripped the velvet bits off either so the rubber protector had worked as I had to force the drivers & passenger doors open.

Then on the drive the whole of the washer system for the front & rear windscreens, & headlights failed!!. I had to stop & have a look & one of the headlight washer units was stuck out & would not retract & the other one was not flush. Anyway the car had the sun on it all day (thawing it out) whilst I went ski-mountaineering, & when I came back to the car both of the headlight washers had fully retracted flush automatically!! :)

Then on the drive back home I got a very nice stone chip in the black lower part of the windscreen just above the rest position of the passenger side wiper blade! Nice deep crater with an air bubble fracture ...Aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!! So that's the three bad things which had to happen as the ski-mountaineering was a superb day!!

On a free day I jacked the car up, removed the skid tray & had a look at the washer reservoir which is a huge 5lt version as I have the headlight washer system for the Xenon's. This reservoir is in the cavity between the wheel arch & the front bumper & front fog light (all UK passenger side). At it's lowest it extends down to just above the cold air duct for the wheel arch in under bumper valance. There is no insulation/protection around the reservoir, or the two pumps which are mounted at the bottom. Also the hoses for the headlight washer system appear to be well protected, but the two for the front & rear screens are much thinner in diameter & less protected. So VAG are basically relying on you using strong enough screen wash!

I usually use screen wash down to -40C & dilute it to cope with -20C, but a couple of years ago I had no option but to get -20C, which ended up being diluted to cope with -10C. Now in my old Skoda this was OK even when the car was left outside because the reservoir was higher up in the engine bay & had more protection/insulation around it.

Anyway I thoroughly inspected for damage, leaks etc, & function checked the car & all OK thank god!! Lessons learnt, much stronger screen wash found & purchased. I also drained the existed weak stuff out by "using" the washers, which took ages!!!

Got Autoglass to come out & fix the stone chip, the bloke doing it had worked for them for 20yrs so knew his stuff. Because it was in the lower black area he could not put the mirror behind it to see what was happening, so had to do it "blind". Anyway filled, solid, & only a small air bubble fracture line just visible, so very good job!!!

Still love the car, so took a couple of good pics when out on another day skiing.

I did something similar last week, gave the car a quick rinse over and luckily I always wipe down the door shuts afterwards. Significant temperature drop over night but I could still open the drivers door.

After about 20 miles of driving I stopped for fuel, try as I might I couldn't get the fuel filler flap open, thought the central locking was faulty until I realised it was frozen shut.

I had the same type on my previous car & thought they would be too chunky/blocky for this car. When I was doing research to find images of Mk7 Golfs with wheels I could find loads with multi spokes which looked OK, but very few with the five spokes. So I chickened out & got the mulitspokes for summer as the lightest & the fives for winter as they "collect" less snow.

However the fives look sooo good I wish I'd got two sets of them as they only weight 0.5kg more per alloy than the multispokes (my other summer set of TDPR alloys & not the factory ones). Both sets of alloys are the same dimensions as the original Dijon's (7 x17) but even the five spokes are 2kg lighter per allloy!

Doh!... real PITA but at least we don't have the problem of the ice dam forming behind the front door hinges & bending the outer door skin like on the Mk5. Also with the new solid door we should never have leaky window carrier problems as per all previous Mk's of Golf, Polo, etc..

You win some you lose some.

Nice looking GSW - that's an SEL trim which gets a lot of extra features, and I don't know why in the hell did I end up getting the LE whereas I walked to the dealership to get an SEL .. LOL, I still don't get that. Just because of a few bucks I missed out on a lot of extra features.

Well I got what I got, trying to transform it into something difference - Considering Golf R400 body kit but the rear bumper is too weird for my liking and then front doesn't have any fogs - lets see what i end up making out of it.

Yours looks suweet, are you running 17s on it?

Thanks!

Both sets are 17" with 225mm wide tyres.

Both sets use the same rim, just the five spokes are dished outwards to allow more internal space. This design is used in rallying to allow fitment of big brake calipers without having to push the wheel out with spacers etc..

Full specs From earlier post....
Now to fit the best wheels in my opinion which happen to be made here in the UK!!
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2, 7”x17”, ET45mm, PCD 5x112mm,
direct center bore 57.1mm, Glitter Silver, (as re-branded for VWR)
fitted with Michelin Primacy 3, 225/45R17 91W, for summer.
2.2kg lighter per complete wheel than the OEM wheel which were the same size .
Team Dynamics Pro Race 3, 7”x17”, ET45mm, PCD 5x112mm,
Plastic reducer spigot, Glitter Silver,
fitted with Michelin Alpin A5, 225/45R17 91H, for winter.
2kg lighter per complete wheel than the OEM wheels which were the same size.
