1.8 TSI torque rating

Anyone else here notice that the torque rating for the 1.8 TSI engine is different in Canada vs. the US spec? Everywhere I have read about the engine from the US states it as 200ft-lb whereas it is listed here as 185ft-lb.

Is it possible we have a detuned version of the engine for fuel consumption reasons? Or is our rating possibly done from the wheels, vs. at the flywheel in the US?

Torques

200 lb-ft is the Euro-spec. VW 1.8L number (comes with VVT on both cams and variable lift on the exhaust cam).

185 lb-ft is the North American-spec. VW 1.8L number (neither VVT nor variable lift on the exhaust).


Everything else is confusion caused by VW providing Euro-Spec. cars and data to North American journalists (first in Europe, then in NA) etc.


NB: Audi 1.8L numbers are the same 'cause they use the more complex engine in North America.
