I purchased my Mk7 last in June. Since then, it has been transformed into a car that I love to drive. In my opinion, the best upgrade I feel that was worth it was the brakes. My driving consists of 90% highway in areas where 90% of other drivers have no idea what a turn signal is or how to activate it. The other reason is the gti isn't a "slow car". If I wanted to drive slow, I would of gotten a regular golf. I use to suffer from brake pedal shudder when coming down from higher speeds but now it's smooth and effortless. Even now that I just did the 38 upgrade, the BBK was money well spent. Most will be happy with the stock setup but I guess it all depends on what you do with the car.
Engine:
IS38 turbo- A+ upgrade
APR TCU tune- A+ upgrade
APR ECU tune- A+ Upgrade
Denso IKH01-24 Racing Plugs- Big difference than what APR recommended. Fouled the IKH0-24's in 5k..
APR intercooler- Noticeable in the summer months. No heatsoak with back to back pulls
APR intake- Questionable if it was worth it..but it looks pretty..
APR catch can- It does it job for the most part.
APR boost tap- Clean look if you are doing a boost gauge
APR boost hoses- Hard to tell if it helps with airflow and power gains
APR down pipe- Must have A+ upgrade
Forge intake hose- Need one for the intake
Neuspeed HI FLO discharge pipe-Hard to tell if it helps with airflow and power gains
Neuspeed HI-FLO charge pipe-Hard to tell if it helps with airflow and power gains
CTS muffler delete-Larger diameter than APR's. I sure it helps with flow.
Neuspeed dogbone insert- Definitely made a difference with the slop
Suspension:
Integrated engineering camber kit- POS
Vogtland coilovers-Excellent price and does its job
Neuspeed Front and Rear swaybars- Should of just tried the rear first.
Superpro end links- Neuspeed endlinks suck. Superpro MUCH better.
Brakes:
Stoptech ST-40 4 piston/355mm 2 piece slotted rotors- Best upgrade. Wish I could test out a 6 piston though..
Stainless Steel brake lines
Wheels:
Summer set..
Neuspeed RSE10 18x9
Extreme contact DW's 235/40/18
42 Draft Designs 18/10mm spacers for stock wheels
Winter set..
Enkei TY-5 19x8.5
Extreme Contact DWS 235/35/19
42 Draft Designs 5MM spacer
Exhaust:
AWE tuning Touring exhaust/ Chrome tips- Mellow until you lay into it.
AWE Track Test Pipe- Rowdy! Love scaring people in the tunnels and underpasses. Slight drone..
Interior:
3M Crystalline 40% tint on sides and rear /90% on windshield- Crazy how this stuff works! (wizardry black magic stuff) Expensive but worth it.
South Bend vent boost gauge-Ehh.. more for looks..
Euroswitch with rear fog wiring- Easy upgrade and functional if you're going to do euro tails or change thing in VCDS for lighting
Weathertech mats/cargo mat-Must have to keep your car interior clean
OEM GTI rear seat cover-Same as above(especially if you have a dog..)
Paddle extensions-More functional than I thought.
Exterior:
Gloss Black emblems- So stealthy..oooh...
Tinted aspherical mirrors- Helped with blind spots
OEM Dark Cherry LED taillights- Definitely not needed but makes the look of the car amazing.
VCDS Tweaks:
Window up/down- Highly recommended VCDS tweak
Seatbelt chime delete- Deleted only because of city block driving.
Soundakator delete-Obviously a must if you have exhaust work..
Windshield washer level indicator delete.- Had to..it was annoying..
